Pupil Savers
Fun pieces that are great ‘Choice’ pieces for Players and Skills classes.
The levels should correspond with your Players class level. If you are in Players 3 picking a piece from a Level 1 book will be fairly easy for you – you should be able to learn it in a week or so. But picking a piece from a Level 3 book might take an entire month to learn and if you want to play it in your skills class, please pick it within enough time to play and practice in your Players class as your ‘choice’ piece.
My favorite website to order music: www.burtnco.com
He has anything and everything! If you can’t find it easily on the site give them a call and they will help you get whatever you need.
Robert Vandall’s series:
Take Note bk 1: Elem level
1. “Push It!” Boys LOVE this piece!
2. “Jazzman”
Take Note bk 2: Late Elem-early intermediate
1. “Queen Anne’s Lace” A hit with girls.
2. “Panic Button”. Goes over very well with those who like aggressive sounding stuff or just need to let off some steam.
Sampler bk 2: Mid-late elem. level.
Only 2 pieces in the collection I don’t tend to use. Students have all LOVED this book. It’s great to use for transfers to help them transition.
Bill Boyd’s Jazz Starters, bks 1-3. (Elem-late elem) There’re few if any pieces that I haven’t used with great success. Each book is a winner.
Hal Leonard Solos bks 1 & 2 (from their student library)
I use every piece in bk 1; they’re all winners. Some are more geared to the boys, others to the girls, but this book is a must have for my beginners.
Favorites from bk 2: Elem lv.
Song of the Orca
Macaroni Cha Cha
Viva La Rumba
School’s Out
