Please Note
All Certification evaluations are done online through www.peerypiano.com and during Mrs Skousen’s office hours the week of Showcase and Share. Mrs Skousen will post her office hours the week before each Showcase week. See her Calendar for times and days.

Mrs Skousen will be teaching all Skills classes this year and would like the students attending to come prepared each month with the following:

POPULAR SKILLS (for those in Players classes)students:
1) 2 minute or less selection of your choice. The selection needs to be memorized and something your peers would enjoy and find interesting. The selection needs to be different each class throughout the year.

2) Happy Birthday - any version, by memory, class will sing along with you

3) Sing Along – any piece that you can play that the class can sing along to (other than Happy Birthday of course). Please bring 3 copies of the lyrics to pass out to class members so they can sing along.

4) You will also be asked to sight read or play by ear a random selection. Prepare by either sight reading for 10 minutes each day or figuring out songs by ear for 10 minutes each day.

CLASSICAL SKILLS (for those in the Mastery program) students:
1) 2 minute or less selection of your choice. The selection needs to be memorized and something you would play at a competition. The selection needs to be different each class throughout the year.

2) Scales/Arps – any key from your age group requirements below chosen at random. All scales and arpeggios must be played with the metronome at any speed of your choice. Scales and arpeggios must be at the same metronome speed.
Grades 2-4
C, G, F, D Major
a natural and harmonic minor
Hands Alone
2 octaves

Grades 5-12
All keys. Major and 3 forms minor
Hands Together
4 octaves

3) Etude – any Study, Czerny or Hanon exercise. 1 minute or less. Memory is optional. No metronome. Exercise cannot be played more than once during the school year.

4) New Piece – each month a piece will be selected one week before Skills week and will be posted on this page. Click on the links below for your piece. You are to learn this piece to the best of your ability (think recital level). Grades 2-4 can get help from parents. Grades 5 and up must learn the piece ENTIRELY on their own. Memory is encouraged, but not required.

5) Review and Current Pieces – Full chart all of your review and current Musical/Repertoire pieces and prepare to performance/competition level
