Players

After a student successfully graduates from the Habits program they are assigned to a Players class. Players classes are taught in groups of 3-5 students of similar ages, personalities and commitment. There are 10 Peery Players levels..

Curriculum

Players curriculum includes assignments in: Muscular - scales, arpeggios, chords, Etudes and Studies Practical - sight reading, duets and ensemble works, theory, ear training, fake book - sing and chord Musical - from the standard Classical repertoire Choice - student's can choose to work on any piece of their choice

Players is FUN! ! (especially when students prepare for class!)

Each level of Players is celebrated at the end with a graduation party. The graduating Players class gets to choose their party activity and the Academy provides the party plus bonus cash depending on how many of the Players requirements were passed in each component (muscular, practical and musical).

70-79% = $1 bonus

80-89% = $2 bonus

90-99% = $4 bonus

Graduation parties have included Chuck E Cheese's, Sky High and a night at the movies.

Answer to other commonly asked Players Program questions

1) Pass-offs: can they pass-off things each week ? how many? (Which things do they pass-off with you and which with Mr Martin?) Yes! They have 10 minutes at the end where they can pass anything muscular or practical. They should pass musical items with Christie during the Showcase/Skills week.

2) Scales - does the last note repeat (plays once on the way up and once on the way down) on the way back ? No. Watch Christie's muscular examples on the video site. Do it exactly like that.

3) fake book: do the chords stay pressed all those beats until the next one comes? Whatever is working. Fake book is flexible. Just go for it and do what sounds good. Just be sure to play the chord on the word the it is listed. Does that make sense?

4) what does "key of ..."mean? how do we determine the key of some music? Key Signature is determined by the sharps & flats. Look back in earlier pages in the book for explanation.

5) skills class: do they bring the eval sheet anyway even if they are not passing things off ? no. Only if they are ready to pass something - musical - for Christie

6) Practice book - under muscular there is an item called essential habits - what is that? Essential Habits is for kids that have moved into Players and are simultaneously still trying finish off Habits assignments. Often they will practice Habits Level 3 repertoire instead of a Choice piece for their first months of Players.

7) Hanon- what does BATP stand for? BATP - be able to pass . . . standard is play through it perfectly. . On the required elements page - Hanon 2 ex. means they have to pass-off 2 hanon exercises for Players 2? any 2? Correct, any 2 exercises of their choice - beginning to end.

8) on the required elements page what is Study? This refers to any piece from the Studies book. They will choose it at a later date in the workbook. What is Choice? Any piece of their choice. ANYTHING he wants to play - Could be Habits stuff he hasn't passed off yet. It could be original composition, it could the Chuck E Cheese theme song. . .
