Monthly Classes
SHOWCASE AND SHARE
Students in the Peery Habits program meet once a month for Showcase and Share class in place of their weekly Habits class and are 1 hour and 15 minutes in length (start time is the same, end time is 15 minutes later than normal class).
Classes are held at the same time and day as the weekly Habits class. Three times each year parents are invited to attend – see the PPA blog for dates. The Showcase and Share assignment is posted online the week before Showcase class. Students need to go to the website and print out their assignment each month the week before class.
Showcase and Share includes a mini recital, musical reports, composition assignments and playing by ear. Students receive feedback from their peers, develop their own listening and performance skills, learn about composer and music history and share their own compositions. The environment is friendly and fun.
PPA Tokens – students receive PPA tokens when they arrive to class on time and at the end of class. Tokens can purchase prizes at the PPA store during the PPA Festival held in May.
All students attending Showcase and Share also receive a small prize. Students get to pick a larger prize out of the prize box if they have completed all Showcase and Share assignments successfully.
INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED SKILLS TRAINING
Students who have graduated from the Peery Habits Program may participate in the Intermediate (grades 2-6) or Advanced (grades 7 and up) Skills Training classes. Skills Training classes are held at the same time and day as their weekly class and are 1 hour in length.
– Classical performance, preparation and technic
- Popular performance, chording, accompanying and sight reading
- Composition
Attendance: Out of consideration to the teacher and other students in the class, students are expected to arrive on time and stay the full time for each class. The Monthly Class schedule is handed out each year in the middle of August and is posted on the PPA blog.
