Christie has been working hard and having lots of fun….

She just got back from Napa where she spent a week filming video lessons for her new piano teaching site, www.peerypiano.com.  The site will contain videos of every lesson in the Peery curriculum beginning through advanced.  It  also features a video exchange so students can submit their videos and get answers directly from Christie.  She will be able to teach students around the world making the Peery curriculum and her teaching available to everyone!  Very exciting!!

Here are a few pictures from her trip:

The transition to including the video lessons in the Habits class was a success!  There were a few bumps along the way and a few more to work out, but we are excited about how this will help our students and appreciate your patience and support in this change.

To clarify the use of the videos -

1)  Video viewing is now required to be eligible for evaluation with Mrs Skousen.  Each video relevant to the component and level you want to evaluate must be viewed three times.  You can view the videos at home or during your habits class.

  – If the video is viewed at home a parent must initial each view in the video log handout that you keep in your workbook pocket.

  – If the video is viewed during Habits class the student can check off the view box in class.

Students must bring their logs with the relevant video views checked off in order to be evaluated.  You are responsible for knowing all of the details that are presented in the videos, so if you check off the video view log without watching the videos Mrs Skousen will know by the details you have missed!

2)  Parents are encouraged to watch the videos at home.  Especially those that cannot attend the Habits classes with their child.  This will keep you up to date on what is being taught and help you know best how to help your child at home.

3)  If all video views that are relevant have been completed, the student may use the station time to do Music Ace.

There is a quirk with the online videos and we have spoken with the vendor about it.  They assure us that they are working on fixing the problem.  In the meantime, here is the work around…

  •  After you log in, you will see a picture with an arrow in the middle.  Don’t click on the arrow here – instead click on the picture beside the arrow.
  • It will take you to a new page with pictures and arrows in the center.  Click on the arrow here and the video should play.
